Birthing and Babies Prenatal Classes

A course to prepare you for childbirth and bringing baby home

Hi Lorraine,  I wanted to say thank you so much for the class information this past weekend. The information you provided my husband Rob and I was amazing. I feel so much more confident about the birthing process and what to expect and look for before and after the baby arrive.  Rob and I were talking after the Saturday class and we felt closer to each other and relaxed. He is going to be a great coach for me he learned a lot he said over the weekend.  So thank you so very much you will receive a picture of little Zachary when he arrives J Kind Regards,  Laura Smith

Lorraine!

I have wanted to connect with you for a couple weeks now, but I’ve been a bit busy with the birth of our daughter Amana...Now I must say, I kept everything you taught us in mind! The breathing helped so much!! Colin was also a great coach. One thing I was afraid of was possibly attacking Colin during the whole thing, but he was so supportive and really kept me calm. I wasn’t as anxious because I felt as though I knew what was coming next and all the medical lingo wasn’t so confusing, thanks to you!! Lorraine, I would definitely recommend your class to anyone! You are very welcoming and down to earth. Pregnancy was a bit nerve wrecking for me and you were definitely a part of making it a lot easier to take in. Thank you thank you thank you! Wishing you and your family all the best! Enjoy your summer.

Take care,

B'onje Habanyama

Hi Lorraine,

Just wanted to thank you for a great weekend. Mike and I really learned a lot from your classes.  You are a great teacher. And I just wanted to say thanks. And I would recommend all of my friends /family to go to your classes. We are much more confident now with the labor and everything else. Thank you.

Hi Lorraine,

This is a little late, but thought I'd send you a quick email and let you know how things went for us! We had a little girl born on January 29 at 8:42 am. She weighed 6lbs 15 oz and was 21 inches long. We named her Rowenna Lucy and we are pretty taken with her!!...Thanks again for all the prep you did with us and advice you gave us. Giving birth was an amazing experience (though not one I'd want to repeat any time too soon!) and thanks to you and the class we were able to be better prepared for it than we would have been otherwise.

Take care,
Brad, Lealla, and Rowenna Broadhead

Lorraine,

Hope the New Year is treating you well. I completed your class the weekend of November 19 /20, 2011. My due date was Dec 14, 2011, but had a c-section on dec 9 due to a number of complications. My husband and I are elated finally be parents, but also trying to adjust to the many life changes that have come along. We had a baby girl and named her Zoe. We want to express our gratitude to you and the awesome job you did during prenatal class. You were so helpful and supportive. You made us feel so comfortable in your home and the information you presented was very helpful. We have done nothing but praise you to those we speak to about what we learned, your teaching style etc. Thank you kindly for being so wonderful..

Hi Lorraine,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for delivering a wonderful Prenatal class! Both Don and I thought it was fantastic and offered a lot of very useful and practical information that we can actually use and apply. Your candid and honest approach was also much appreciated. We both really enjoyed ourselves and feel much better prepared for the journey ahead.

Thank you again and Happy Holidays!

Natalie & Don Nunn

Lorraine,

It was a pleasure meeting you this past weekend. Daryl and I truly enjoyed the experience and we learned a lot! Your teaching style is very relaxed and reassuring, and we appreciated that you answered any and all questions to the best of your ability. Having you as a resource in the community is a huge asset - Halton Region is lucky to have someone with your experience/expertise in it's midst.

Thanks again, we will send you an update once baby Mercer has arrived. :o)

Lorraine,

Thank you so much for such an informative, fun and comfortable class this weekend.  I really felt like I learned a lot and my husband Shawn REALLY learned a lot (which is perfect!).  I have always heard mixed opinions about prenatal classes but I would recommend your class to anyone that is pregnant and looking to take a birthing/baby class.

If you were still working at Milton Hospital I would request you to be my labour and delivery nurse in a heartbeat!!   It's also nice to know that you will still be available for questions or advice even now that the class is over.  Thanks again for everything!

Sincerely, Kerry, Shawn and baby Burns :)

Hello, Lorraine!

I just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed the birthing class we took with you this past weekend.  We left feeling more excited about Baby Kamen than nervous.  We met several really nice people and had a lot of fun.  I'm glad that even my husband was able to get interested.  By the time we left on Sunday, he was asking me questions when I had some Braxton-Hicks like, "how far apart are they and are they getting closer together?  What are they on a pain scale"?  So cute!!!  And I'm LOVING him practicing the massage techniques you taught us!  I might just stay pregnant a while longer just for the massages.

We think all of the breathing and relaxation techniques will really help us during labor, especially early labor.  I just wish I was going to have you're soothing voice there during labor at Credit Valley!  I have to go--Jesse is nesting (not me) and he wants to clean the door knobs : ) Thanks again!  Erica & Jesse (& Kamen) Moreno

Hi Lorraine,

Nate and I want to extend our sincere thanks for the amazing prenatal classes you provided last weekend.
We learned so much and feel a confidence regarding our birth plan that was very much lacking!
You are a wonderful instructor who made us feel truly special! Thank you so much for your efforts!

Sincerely,

Amber & Nate

Just a quick note to say thank you for a great weekend. My husband and I found your course very informative and well organized. Your nursing background is evident and we really felt as though our questions were clearly answered, and anxieties eased. Even better, we had a chance to meet and exchange numbers with a few Milton parents-to-be!

"So we ended up taking prenatal classes last weekend in Oakville (www.birthingandbabies.com). Yes I'm giving this lady a shout-out. The instructor / nurse was great. Informative, responsive, caring and truly believed in what she was doing. It drives faith that this process of birthing is actually humanly possible."

"By the way.  I really enjoyed your course.  Very eye-opening.  It definitely has given us both an opportunity to focus our efforts on a successful labour.  Really appreciated your candour and insights."

Good Afternoon Lorraine,

On behalf of Jaimi and soon-to-arrive Baby Ava, I just wanted to again thank you for your wonderful workshop.  As a first time father, truthfully my only real concern going into parenthood, other than the baby and Jaimi's health, is making it through the delivery process.  Understandably, men go through nothing when compared to what Mom/baby have to endure but for someone who doesn't even like the sight of a needle, the thought of actually being in the room while Jaimi delivers, has been on my mind since Day 1.

I think men tend to mask their fear/concern with humour but truth be known, I don't want my daughter's first memory of her Dad to be one where he has just fainted!  Although, no guarantee that it won't still happen, your course helped me to eliminate most of the unknown.  I'm not saying I loved watching every part of every video but I'm glad that I did.  I'm sure that you hear it all the time but I hope that our nursing staff are as understanding, fun and professional as you were during the course.  The best compliment I can pay you is this - the way that times are, we all tend to worry about work.  Cell phones and Blackberry's constantly going, etc. and our minds constantly running.  With the new addition, soon to arrive, concerns get ratcheted up a notch.

During your workshop, I did not think about anything other than my wife and child.  I felt as calm as I have in ages and Jaimi never looked so beautiful to me - I appreciate her more already.

Keep doing what you are doing.  You are great at it!

All the Best to you and your family.

Best Regards,
Mario Venditti

Hi Lorraine,

It was a pleasure meeting you too - we could not have asked for a better
instructor :)

We really enjoyed the class and learned so much useful stuff! We would
definitely recommend it to our friends in the future.

Please feel free to use our comments and we will share our birth story with you
when we have one :)

Thanks again,
Anna

..."It was a girl (I knew it) Maren Isabella Shaw.  She was born at 3:29am on Monday February 16th, 2009.  Family Day!  She was 9lbs 6oz! Her breathing was too rapid and she had swallowed mechonium, so they took her right to the nursery, where she stayed for 3 days.  Ryan was a great coach and he went with Maren and stayed with her that night.

She is now 2 weeks old and doing so well.  She is a great baby and so beautiful!  She is 9lbs 12oz!  We are so happy!

We are really greatful for your class!  It helped us so much and we will recommend it to everyone!

Thank you so much!

Ryan and Kristy Shaw!

Hello Lorraine,

"I just thought I would let you know that our baby girl was born 3 weeks ago.   She was born on Sept 26th at 4:15am.  She was 8lbs 4oz.  We had her at Milton hospital.  It was a great experience, and all the nurses said I did an amazing job".

".... So, I was very proud of myself.  My goal was not to have an epidural and I succeeded.  I couldn't have gone that far without you and your class though.  Phill & I learned so much. He was absolutely amazing through the  whole thing.  Your class really stuck with us & made the whole thing so much easier.  Thank you for everything.  We have been recommending you to everyone we know.  Take care. "

Kristen, Phill and baby girl Brynley

Hi Lorraine,

I wanted to thank you for the weekend. Aileen and I had a wonderful time. We thought that you did a great job. You covered a broad range of topics and gave such a thorough overview. We both went into the weekend not knowing what to expect and came out very happy we attended.

You did a great job and we will definitely send soon to be couples your way!

Thanks again.

Ben and Aileen

Testimonials

Below is a testimonial from a couple who recently attended the February 2008 weekend prenatal classes:

My husband and I recently took part in Lorraine's weekend prenatal classes, after much deliberation about where and if we should even take such classes. I had heard mixed reviews about prenatal classes from colleagues and friends, so we really weren't sure what to expect. I had originally signed up for the classes at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, but reconsidered after I realized how large their class sizes are and that they spend a lot of time on prenatal nutrition (and other topics that would be more important during the earlier stages of pregnancy).

We were sincerely impressed with Lorraine's classes and how comfortable and welcoming the venue was. She struck a perfect balance between group activities, whole group discussion, independent couple work, and videos. She has a wealth of knowledge, not only from a medical standpoint, but from a mother's perspective as well. She is up-to-date on current trends, news, and everything related to pregnancy and child rearing. I also loved her flexibility and willingness to divert off topic to explore other issues of interest such as cloth diapers, myths about epidurals, organic products, etc.

My husband, perhaps the biggest skeptic going into these classes, was equally impressed. What he found to be the most beneficial was learning how he can actually help during labour and delivery; he no longer felt that he would be clueless and helpless through this process. We also both liked the time spent on "life after birth", as the information presented was so practical.

Overall, we highly recommend Lorraine's classes. From a teacher's perspective, I can say her lessons were exceptionally well planned and executed.
