Birthing and Babies Prenatal Classes

Preparing you for childbirth and bringing baby home

Below is a testimonial from a couple who attended Birthing and Babies prenatal classes in Spring 2010:

"So we ended up taking prenatal classes last weekend in Oakville (www.birthingandbabies.com). Yes I'm giving this lady a shout-out. The instructor / nurse was great. Informative, responsive, caring and truly believed in what she was doing. It drives faith that this process of birthing is actually humanly possible."

"By the way.  I really enjoyed your course.  Very eye-opening.  It definitely has given us both an opportunity to focus our efforts on a successful labour.  Really appreciated your candour and insights."

Good Afternoon Lorraine,

On behalf of Jaimi and soon-to-arrive Baby Ava, I just wanted to again thank you for your wonderful workshop.  As a first time father, truthfully my only real concern going into parenthood, other than the baby and Jaimi's health, is making it through the delivery process.  Understandably, men go through nothing when compared to what Mom/baby have to endure but for someone who doesn't even like the sight of a needle, the thought of actually being in the room while Jaimi delivers, has been on my mind since Day 1.

I think men tend to mask their fear/concern with humour but truth be known, I don't want my daughter's first memory of her Dad to be one where he has just fainted!  Although, no guarantee that it won't still happen, your course helped me to eliminate most of the unknown.  I'm not saying I loved watching every part of every video but I'm glad that I did.  I'm sure that you hear it all the time but I hope that our nursing staff are as understanding, fun and professional as you were during the course.  The best compliment I can pay you is this - the way that times are, we all tend to worry about work.  Cell phones and Blackberry's constantly going, etc. and our minds constantly running.  With the new addition, soon to arrive, concerns get ratcheted up a notch.

During your workshop, I did not think about anything other than my wife and child.  I felt as calm as I have in ages and Jaimi never looked so beautiful to me - I appreciate her more already.

Keep doing what you are doing.  You are great at it!

All the Best to you and your family.

Best Regards,
Mario Venditti

..."It was a girl (I knew it) Maren Isabella Shaw.  She was born at 3:29am on Monday February 16th, 2009.  Family Day!  She was 9lbs 6oz! Her breathing was too rapid and she had swallowed mechonium, so they took her right to the nursery, where she stayed for 3 days.  Ryan was a great coach and he went with Maren and stayed with her that night.

She is now 2 weeks old and doing so well.  She is a great baby and so beautiful!  She is 9lbs 12oz!  We are so happy!

We are really greatful for your class!  It helped us so much and we will recommend it to everyone!

Thank you so much!

Ryan and Kristy Shaw!

Below is an email sent from a couple who attended July 2008 weeknight prenatal classes:

Hello Lorraine,

"I just thought I would let you know that our baby girl was born 3 weeks ago.   She was born on Sept 26th at 4:15am.  She was 8lbs 4oz.  We had her at Milton hospital.  It was a great experience, and all the nurses said I did an amazing job".

".... So, I was very proud of myself.  My goal was not to have an epidural and I succeeded.  I couldn't have gone that far without you and your class though.  Phill & I learned so much. He was absolutely amazing through the  whole thing.  Your class really stuck with us & made the whole thing so much easier.  Thank you for everything.  We have been recommending you to everyone we know.  Take care. "

Hi Lorraine,

I wanted to thank you for the weekend. Aileen and I had a wonderful time. We thought that you did a great job. You covered a broad range of topics and gave such a thorough overview. We both went into the weekend not knowing what to expect and came out very happy we attended.

You did a great job and we will definitely send soon to be couples your way!

Thanks again.

Ben and Aileen

Testimonials

Below is a testimonial from a couple who recently attended the February 2008 weekend prenatal classes:

My husband and I recently took part in Lorraine's weekend prenatal classes, after much deliberation about where and if we should even take such classes. I had heard mixed reviews about prenatal classes from colleagues and friends, so we really weren't sure what to expect. I had originally signed up for the classes at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, but reconsidered after I realized how large their class sizes are and that they spend a lot of time on prenatal nutrition (and other topics that would be more important during the earlier stages of pregnancy).

We were sincerely impressed with Lorraine's classes and how comfortable and welcoming the venue was. She struck a perfect balance between group activities, whole group discussion, independent couple work, and videos. She has a wealth of knowledge, not only from a medical standpoint, but from a mother's perspective as well. She is up-to-date on current trends, news, and everything related to pregnancy and child rearing. I also loved her flexibility and willingness to divert off topic to explore other issues of interest such as cloth diapers, myths about epidurals, organic products, etc.

My husband, perhaps the biggest skeptic going into these classes, was equally impressed. What he found to be the most beneficial was learning how he can actually help during labour and delivery; he no longer felt that he would be clueless and helpless through this process. We also both liked the time spent on "life after birth", as the information presented was so practical.

Overall, we highly recommend Lorraine's classes. From a teacher's perspective, I can say her lessons were exceptionally well planned and executed.
